Synchrotron Light Sources
Particle Accrlreators
Application Overview
The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) is also a type of linear accelerator. As a linear accelerator, it is a room-temperature linear accelerator consisting of equipment such as an electron gun at the end, a focusing unit, an acceleration structure, and a microwave power source.
Application Details
The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) linear accelerator is hailed as a ‘super microscope.’ Its accelerator consists of three independent accelerators—a linear accelerator, an intensifier, and a storage ring—as well as three transport lines connecting them. The linear accelerator is a room-temperature linear accelerator approximately 49 metres in length, serving as the electron source and first-stage accelerator. It is used to generate electrons and accelerate them to 500 megelectronvolts (MeV). The linear accelerator comprises equipment such as the electron gun at the end, the focusing unit, the accelerating structure, and the microwave power source.
